The Artist's Studio at the Farm at South Mountain
|
I am dazzled and amazed myself ~ and so blessed! After many years of
dealing with and healing a series of potentially life-threatening illnesses, I
am well. It seems ‘so apropos’ that my journey has led me “back to the
farm” to begin my teaching and artistic career anew. I look forward to
seeing you here, too!

Julie Brokken-I was graced with being raised on the family farm ~
a child of Nature and Spirit, as much as the child of Norwegian, Swedish,
German, English, French, Swiss, and yes, Turkish ‘Blend” parents with the
requisite and customary rumor of Native American.
My fun-loving storytelling father discovered arrowheads as he plowed
while my pioneering mother created our county’s public health program.
And me? I was learning how to be responsible AND how to make my own
fun.
Like my One-Room Country Schoolhouse Grandma Anna, I was also a born
teacher ~ coming home from kindergarten each day to teach my little sister
everything I’d learned. I later received a BA from Iowa Wesleyan, then
followed my dream of living in the West all the way to Phoenix in 1983.
I’ve taught practically every art medium, and every age level from
preschool through high school. I’ve taught at the Interlochen Center for the
Arts, Michigan, Cartwright District Gifted and Talented Art Program,
elementary and secondary art programs, the Phoenix Art Museum, Mesa
Arts Center Summer Arts Camp, and the Arizona Museum for Youth.
An accomplished artist as well, my work has been collected by the Tucson
Museum of Fine Art and many private collectors, locally, nationally, and in
the UK. One collector wrote this note, “Visionary, assembler of fragments.
Disparate elements are transformed into beauty, power, and truth in your
hands. When your creativity flows, you dazzle and amaze.”
