| One of my favorite quotes is from a Barney’s New York ad: “Sometimes you think pink but wear black.” My inspiration for design comes from everywhere – history, travel, the arts, architecture, interior design, photography, fabric, and color…especially color, which is really bizarre because I always wear black. I was always artsy and creative as a kid. I learned how to sew and started making all my own clothes in high school. Fortunately, my high school offered a very comprehensive class in fashion design, where I learned that this field combines clothing and art with so many different areas that were of interest to me – business, advertising, marketing, graphic design, photography, illustration, textiles, production, retail, sociology, psychology, history, and culture. After graduating from college with a degree in Fashion Design, I moved from Texas to New York City to get “a couple of years” of good design experience…nearly 20 years later I was still there… |
| We recently moved from NYC to Arizona for a major lifestyle change – to be out of the proverbial rat race, to be closer to nature, to be closer to family, and to have more time to spend with these new little people we brought into the world. Now, I am exploring new opportunities and waiting to see what the future holds for me – I’m interested in so many areas - human development, working with young people, starting a business, exploring other forms of art and design. I feel that a combination of synchronicity and serendipity, both of which have ruled much of my life, have led me to The Artist’s Studio - an amazing space with such an eclectic group of creative people. I am looking forward to growing as an artist in this community as this next chapter of my life unfolds… |
I started out designing in the fashion industry, and then moved to the home furnishings industry, with a focus on creating product and developing new business opportunities for established companies including Restoration Hardware (Brocade Home), Williams-Sonoma (West Elm), Spiegel Catalog (Elements), and Liz Claiborne. While in New York, I also completed advanced courses of study at Parsons School of Design, the Fashion Institute of Technology and New York University. My career in design has afforded me the opportunity to travel allover the world, especially Asia, where I discovered a love of exploring foreign places, cultures, and religions. Overseas travel has broadened my horizons on so many levels, and it has made a lasting impact on my life and my world view. I share my love of travel with my husband, Jose, who has introduced me to all kinds of new and interesting ideas, and has added a whole new dimension to my life. We now have two little boys who keep us very busy and very entertained! I am grateful to my parents who raised me and my two sisters (i.e. my two best friends) with a “you can do anything” attitude, and I hope to instill that same spirit in my sons. |
